Passive immunity can also be acquired via blood products containing antibodies, which may be given when immediate protection against a particular disease is required.
    The main advantage of passive immunity is that it provides immediate protection, while active immunity takes time to develop. However, passive immunity only lasts for a short period of time. Active immunity is enduring.
